# Honour the regulars. Where everyone sees it.

> Make a badge with a name, a line and a picture, give it to members, and it shows beside their name on every comment. By hand or with your agent.

A badge is a name, a line and a picture your publication gives to a member. **It shows beside their name on every comment they write**, for founders, contributors and the readers who stay.

## By hand, in the admin

1. Open **Audience**, press **Badges**, then **New badge**.
2. Give it a **Name**, a **Description** and a **Picture**: a PNG, JPEG, GIF or WebP file. Save.
3. Open a member's page from Audience. Under **Badges**, choose the badge and press **Give**.
4. **Remove** beside a badge on the member's page takes it back from that member.
5. To delete a badge, open it on the Badges screen and press **Remove badge**. It leaves everyone who wore it.

## With your agent

> Make a Founding reader badge from this star picture, and give it to ana@example.com and leo@example.com.

> Take the Contributor badge back from sam@example.com.

> Rename the Supporter badge to Patron and change its line to “Keeps the lights on”.

The tools it calls: `upload_media`, `create_badge`, `list_badges`, `update_badge`, `award_badge`, `take_back_badge`.

Your agent finds a member by their address. It has no tool to read your member list, so tell it who.

## Examples

- **Founders, marked.** A cycling magazine gives a Founding reader badge to its first hundred members. **Their comments carry it for good.**
- **Contributors in the comments.** A science blog gives a Contributor badge to readers who sent in a correction, so other readers see who helped.
- **A badge for the season.** A fantasy football newsletter asks its agent to give the League winner badge to this season's champion, and take it back from last year's.

## Questions

### How do I give a member a badge on PixelGlass?

Make the badge in Audience › Badges, then open the member's page, choose the badge under Badges and press Give.

### Where do badges show?

Beside the member's name on every comment they write. A reader who points at the badge sees its name and its description.

### What picture can a badge have?

A PNG, JPEG, GIF or WebP file. An SVG is refused, because a browser cannot show it beside a name.

### Can a member wear more than one badge?

Yes. A member wears each badge once, and as many different badges as you give them.

### Who can make and give badges?

Admins and the owner. An agent connected by an admin gives and takes back badges with award_badge and take_back_badge.
