# Lock the post. Keep the reader.

> Lock any post for members, for paying members or for chosen tiers. Readers outside see the title and the excerpt. Do it in the editor or ask your agent.

Every post on PixelGlass has a Who can read setting. **Choose members, paying members or the tiers you name**, and everyone else sees the title, the cover and the excerpt, then the way in.

## By hand, in the admin

1. Open the post in the editor and press **Post settings**.
2. Under **Who can read**, choose Public, Members only, Paid members only or Specific tiers.
3. For Specific tiers, tick the tiers whose members read the whole post.
4. A draft saves by itself; on a published post, press **Update**. The paywall is live at once, on the site and in every theme.
5. To lock many posts, tick them on the posts list, open **Access**, choose who can read and press **Apply**.

## With your agent

> Make the post called “Inside the March numbers” for paying members only.

> Lock every post tagged Deep dives for members on the Studio tier.

> List my members-only posts and open the oldest two to everyone.

The tools it calls: `list_posts`, `update_post_settings`, `change_posts`.

## Examples

- **A weekly column, free for a week.** A food writer publishes each column for everyone, then **asks her agent every Monday to lock last week's column** for paying members.
- **A tier for the deep dives.** An analyst sells a Pro tier. Posts tagged Deep dives are for Pro alone; the rest are for every paying member.
- **Members-only, not paid.** A hiking club keeps trail reports for members who signed up for free, so the list grows before anything is sold.

## Questions

### How do I make a post for paying members only on PixelGlass?

Open the post's settings in the editor and set Who can read to Paid members only. Readers who do not pay see the title, cover and excerpt, then a way to subscribe.

### Can a post be for one tier and not another?

Yes. Choose Specific tiers and tick the tiers whose members read the whole post. A post with no tier ticked is open to every paying member.

### Does a comped member read paid posts?

Yes. A comp counts as paying, so a member you comp reads every post for paying members.

### Does the paywall work in my own theme?

Yes. The site puts the paywall in place of the post's content for a reader the post is not for, so every theme is gated without a change.

### Can my agent lock posts for me?

Yes. An editor's agent changes who can read one post with update_post_settings, or many posts at once with change_posts.
