Design and themes

Two menus.
Your links, in your order.

Every PixelGlass site has two menus: Primary in the masthead and Secondary in the footer. Every bundled theme shows both, and readers see a change at once.

Say it to your agent

Put Home, About, Search and Subscribe in my top menu, in that order, and move RSS to the footer.

  • get_navigation
  • set_navigation

Two ways to do it.

By hand

In the admin

  1. Open Settings › Design and choose Navigation. It shows the Primary and Secondary menus.
  2. Press Edit.
  3. Type a label and an address in the empty row, or choose one from Link to…: a shortcut such as Search or Sign up, a page or a site page. Then press Add.
  4. Drag a row by its handle to move it. Press Remove to take it out.
  5. Press Save. Readers see the new menus at once.

With your agent

In Claude, ChatGPT or your editor

Put Home, About, Search and Subscribe in my top menu, in that order.

Add a Shop link to shop.example.com at the end of the footer menu.

Show me both menus and every page they could link to.

The tools it calls

  • get_navigation
  • set_navigation

For example

  • A footer for the small print

A law blog keeps its masthead to three links and puts Privacy, Terms and RSS in the Secondary menu.

  • A link for members only

A book club adds Sign in and Account to its menu. Each link shows only to the reader it is for.

  • A shop beside the blog

A pottery studio links its menu to the shop on another domain, between About and Subscribe.

Questions, answered

How do I change my menu on PixelGlass?
Open Settings › Design, choose Navigation and press Edit. Add, move or remove links in the Primary and Secondary menus, then press Save.
What is the difference between Primary and Secondary?
On PixelGlass, Primary is the masthead's menu and Secondary is the footer's. Every bundled theme shows both.
Can a menu link go to another website?
Yes. A PixelGlass menu link is a path on your site, like /about, or any http or https address.
Can a menu link show only to signed-in readers?
Yes. A link to the sign-in, sign-up or account page shows only to the reader it is for.
Can my agent change the menus?
Yes, when the person who connected it is the owner or an admin. It reads both menus with get_navigation and replaces one with set_navigation.
